Barre Reads Kick-Off Party at Aldrich Library

Past event
Sep 13, 2017, 6:30 to 7:30 PM

Come to the Aldrich Public Library on Wednesday evening to celebrate the kick-off of our Barre Reads 2017 program. The Vermont Humanities Council invites citizens across the state to read "Brown Girl Dreaming" by Jacqueline Woodson and participate in community activities related to the book’s themes. This beautiful memoir of the author’s childhood is written in verse. It is a story of a young person finding her voice while examining the strength of family bonds. Leda Schubert, author of "Listen: How Pete Seeger Got America Singing," will kick off our 20th annual Greater Barre Community Writing Contest inspired by this year’s Barre Reads book. This year’s theme is "Memoir: Writing from the heart." Come pick up a book and get your inspiration for the winning entry in this year’s writing contest! Refreshments served.
