Made possible by the generosity of the Roberta and Russell Housman Charitable Foundation, the Manchester Community Library will offer a free public screening of The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. From the director of the Oscar®-winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom, The Music of Strangers tells the extraordinary story of an amazing group of musicians, brought together by legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma, who have come together over the past 15 years to celebrate the universal power of music.

According to Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal, “Morgan Neville’s documentary is a joyous revelation, a group portrait of superb musicians from all over the world offering music as an emblem of what people can do in these fractious times when they live in concert with one another.” “While this documentary … is lovely to watch, it’s even more beautiful to hear,” stated Ken Jaworowski, The New York Times.

Julie Freebern, a Music Educator at Burr and Burton Academy, specializing in vocals and instrumentals; and pianist, composer, and sound designer Geoffrey Gee, Upper School Music Director at Long Trail School, will led a discussion following the film.

Refreshments will be served, starting at 6 p.m. The film screening will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Manchester Community Library is located at 138 Cemetery Ave. in Manchester Center, VT. The film screening and discussion is free and open to all. Info: 802-362-2607.
