Past event
Sep 11, 2017, 9:50 to 11 PM

In memory of those who lost their lives as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks Norwich University will be hosting several opportunities for reflection throughout the day on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.
On Monday, Sept. 11 the U.S. flag will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset. Beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, Norwich’s Political Science Club (POLITEIA) will plant about 3,000 small U.S. flags in honor of the fallen on 9/11 on the north section of the Upper Parade Ground. Community members are encouraged to view them and take a moment for reflection. Seniors in the Corps of Cadets will also march vigil tours, a solemn tour marched at a slow ceremonial pace, across the north section of the Upper Parade Ground every half-hour beginning at midnight on Sept. 11.
Norwich University will conduct a Remembrance Ceremony at 10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11 to commemorate the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This ceremony will be held on the Upper Parade Ground where a bugler will play Echo Taps and Amazing Grace. The campus is expected to be silent following the ceremony and for the Upper Parade Ground to remain silent until 11 p.m.
All in attendance are expected to behave and dress in a respectful manner for such an occasion. Cell phones should not be brought to this event.

All members of the Norwich and Northfield communities are welcome to attend. Civilians and other community members are asked to be mindful of the Corps formations and to congregate by the steps of Jackman Hall. To prevent possible interruptions, we ask that attendees arrive to the UP by 9:50 p.m., including those intending to park their vehicles in the Jackman Hall Parking lot.
