Come to Rokeby Museum this Sunday, September 10 at 3:00 to learn about the modern antislavery movement with historian Robert Wright.
Though chattel slavery ended in the 19th century, more than 21 million people are subject to some form of slavery today. Professor Wright will discuss:
- Contemporary slavery and other forms of trafficked, coerced, and "unfree" labor
- The various types of enforced labor, its economic impact, who is victimized and why
- What scholar-activists are doing and how you can get involved
Professor Wright comes to Rokeby Museum through the Historians Against Slavery speaker's bureau. He is a founding member of HAS, a community of scholar-activists who bring historical context and scholarship to today’s antislavery movements in order to inform activism and develop collaborations that empower such efforts.
