Act 46 & Act 49 School Governance Consolidation Plan in FNESU
In a meeting of the Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union board on August 16, the board encouraged member districts to study the feasibility of a side-by-side school governance consolidation for the communities in FNESU. This plan would consolidate the Richford and Enosburg governance structures into one PK-12 Supervisory District and the Bakersfield, Berkshire, and Montgomery governance structures into one PK-12 Supervisory District (each school on this side of the agreement would operate PK-8 and tuition 9-12). The board believes this plan is the best option for our communities to meet the goals and requirements of the law as outlined in Acts 46 & 49 prior to the deadlines outlined in Act 49. In this plan, existing school choice would be retained in Bakersfield, Berkshire, and Montgomery. This plan includes the consolidation of five local school boards into two local boards while maintaining all existing schools. Local boards are seeking public input prior to their September local meetings where they will formally decide whether or not to prepare and present a plan to voters November 30, 2017.

The boards value the input of our community members and have planned opportunities for public input from residents on each side of the proposed consolidation as follows:
