CAPITAL CITY CASH FLASH – A CHANCE TO WIN $500 THIS HOLIDAY

MONTPELIER, VT—Montpelier Alive in partnership with the City of Montpelier will be hosting a one-day event called the Capital City Cash Flash on Saturday, December 7, 2013 in front of Montpelier City Hall starting at 10 am. Everyone is invited to join them in spending Capital City Cash in downtown Montpelier by the end of the day Saturday to qualify to win a prize of $500 in Capital City Cash.

“We’re hoping that we draw folks from all over to help us with this one-day instant infusion into the holiday registers,” said Phayvanh Luekhamhan, Executive Director of Montpelier Alive. “We’ve seen a significant drop in business overall this year due to a long construction schedule and we’re hoping this will help businesses to recoup some of that loss.”

Volunteers will be on hand to distribute envelopes of Capital City Cash to shoppers who then have until the end of the day to spend that cash, using their envelope as their entry for the $500 Capital City Cash prize. Envelopes randomly contain between $5 to $100. Shoppers will leave their envelopes at the stores and they will be collected the next day and a winner will be drawn. This giveaway will infuse $8,000 or more into downtown Montpelier.

“We’re prepping almost 1,000 envelopes,” said Pinky Clark, a Montpelier Alive Board member and volunteer. “One envelope per person. If we run out, then everyone spend their own Capital City Cash. We’ll also have some for sale, too.” Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own supply, just in case.

What is Capital City Cash? Montpelier’s universal downtown gift certificate is accepted at most businesses in downtown Montpelier. It’s as a good as cash and is a truly unique way of supporting local businesses. Last year, Capital City Cash reinvested over $34,000 back into the downtown economy. It is a program of the Montpelier Business Association, a committee of Montpelier Alive.

How the Flash Works: Montpelier Alive and the City of Montpelier will distribute up to 1,000 envelopes containing a total of $7,500 to shoppers who then must spend the Capital City Cash in downtown Montpelier by the end of the day to qualify for the $500 prize. Shoppers will leave their contact info with their envelope at any participating merchant to be qualified for the drawing. That’s it.

What if we give all the envelopes away? You can still qualify by spending Capital City Cash before the end of the day on Saturday. Blank envelopes will be provided. Shoppers may bring in their own unused Capital City Cash for this event and/or purchase them on location or at one of 5 downtown outlets.

Want to stretch your Capital City Cash purchases even further? Shoppers are encouraged to use the coupons printed in Local First Vermont’s Buy Local Coupon and Resource Book.
