Planning City Center

Past event
Dec 5, 2013, 7 to 9 PM

Please tell the city what you want your city center to look like. Do it in person this week: Thursday, 5 December (2-4 PM at City Hall or 7-9 PM at Central School) or Saturday, 7 December (2-4 PM at the library). Or post your views at www.sburl.com/planning or email them to planning@sburl.com.

During previous visioning sessions residents talked about wanting South Burlington’s downtown to have a unique look, and most importantly, to look like Vermont. Some wanted a “Central Park” like city center. Others suggested an ice-skating pond, play areas, and green space to gather. The map which resulted from these visioning sessions showed a large central green surrounded by city hall, a library, a community/senior center, small shops, restaurants and residential housing.

The current map of city center produced by the form based code committee shows a different view. The central green is replaced by 5 and 6-story buildings, similar to other downtown shopping areas, and resembles Burlington, which some did not want so as not to compete with Church St. Two maps show two different concepts of city center.

What do you want? Share your ideas this week.
