Gates open at 10am for the 2017 Summerfest and Car Show on Saturday, August 19th. Live music starts at 11 with the high energy music of Donna Thunder and the Storm, followed close behind by The Nobby Reed Project and their soul soothing Blues. Next performers are Gentleman Bruce LeClair with Mike McCory and Frank Fidele and their distinctive sound followed by the acoustic rock of Mountain Weekend from Boston. Rounding out the show is the soulful sound of Imagine That with a short break in the music at 3pm to reveal the winners of the car show. Donna Thunder and all her new friends will share the stage for the last hour of the show for some open mic magic and to ease out what is sure to be a fantastic day.
Come and check out all of the amazing cars at the car show. There will be awards for “Best of Show”, “Diamond in the Rough”, “Most Likely to get Pulled Over” and several others. Cast your vote for spectator’s choice and stick around to find out who all the winners are. There will be a fleet of amazing cars for the car guys and gals so be sure to come out with your cameras in hand. Judging for the show will be ongoing and winners will be announced at 3PM at the main stage.
Other Summerfest activities include a chili cook-off at 10:30. Bring your best chili to the food tent and let the judges decide who makes the best chili around. Kids have a great time following clues that lead to a pirate’s treasure chest full of loot in the annual Treasure Hunt at 11am. Registration for the Lawn Mower Drag races starts at 11am and the drags start at noon. Tune up your hot rod mowers and bring them out to the field for some drag racing fun. Pie Eating contest starts at 1pm so bring your sweet tooth, prepare to devour some of the best pies around and see if you can win the title of Pie Eating Champion. We’ll start the engine and you have to guess how long before it blows up at the annual engine blow contest at 2pm. Place your bets on, 2 seconds, 20 minutes or somewhere in between. Ongoing all day are great events like a petting zoo for kids of all ages, cow plop bingo, face painting, arts and crafts table, raffles and games of all kinds. New this year, compliments of the Grand Isle County Sheriff’s Department; a 65 foot long bouncy relay course. Come out and race your friends to see who has what it takes to make it through. Also new this year is the American Legion Post #60 with a beer tent just to wet your whistle in between events.
