Local Farm Pasture Walk, Maple Hill Campsites and Farm

Past event
Aug 27, 2017, 2 to 4 PM

We invite experienced and inexperienced “grass farmers” to come and talk about sustainable rotational pasture management with emphasis on roughage. We will be considering medium browse plants, small shrubs and trees as sustainable, renewable sources of browse for our goats. The overall farm goal is to provide natural sustainable rotational browse and pasture three seasons of the year, with the possibility of hay fields providing for the winter. We do not use any synthetic or foreign fertilizers or additions to our soil. As we will be walking several pastures and potential pastures with an eye on plant variety, wetness and roughage we recommend wearing protective clothing and water-proof footwear. Please be conscientious of farm-to-farm pathogens and wear clean footwear too. Visitors will be invited to sample natural goat products (edible and non) and see firsthand “before” and “after” pastures to assess the value vs. the impact of raising goats on browse. Free for Vermont Sheep and Goat Association members, $5 for non-members. Refreshments will be served. Free Samples.
