It's big. It holds back the 8th largest body of water in Vermont.
The Waterbury Dam, constructed primarily for flood control, is a Roosevelt-era relic that evolved into a renewable energy source and a highly popular recreation destination. This tour is hosted by State Dam Safety Engineer Ben Green and Jeff Crocker of the Rivers Management Program.
The tour is a great a way for you to get a glimpse of daily dam operations and understand how the federal 401 Water Quality Certification improves water quality up-stream and down-stream from the dam. The tour is FREE but may we suggest a $10 donation to benefit Friends of Waterbury Reservoir to fund our year-round advocacy for the health of the reservoir?
