I am very much looking forward to the Matt Townsend music residency that starts Thursday night (8/10) at ZenBarn @ 8:00 PM. Matt's a well known singer / songwriter based in Asheville, NC. In just a few years, he has become a staple of the music scene there, and has recorded and performed his songs with the Asheville Symphony.
His 2016 release "The Drifter and The Dream Part 1" (combined with the other frequently performed, but yet to be released, tracks from Part 2) is probably my favorite record made last year. Without question, it's the one that I've listened to the most. The following quote does a great job of describing the way that I feel about his work....
"This young man has to be one of my all time favorites. Lately I've found a few. But Matt has something that I think everyone's been looking for. Truth, beauty, peace, and enlightenment in his songs. They are mesmerizing. This is one album I can't stop listening to." -Nashville Music Guide
Finally, these shows represent a homecoming, of sorts, for Matt. Between his formative period at UVM and in the Burlington scene (7Days wrote favorable reviews for his first two records) and Asheville, he lived for a few seasons here in Waterbury Center, honing his craft and working on the songs which would eventually appear on "Matt Townsend and The Wonder of the World."

I hope that the community turns out to support this amazing young artist and enjoy his music. Perhaps, I'll see you there?
Cheers,
Dan Murphy
