The Monkton Museum and Historical Society (MM&HS) invites members, Monkton residents, and anyone with Monkton photographs from the post-World-War-II era to the present and stories about those photographs to its August 21st meeting. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Monkton Town Hall in Monkton Ridge on Monday, August 21.
MM&HS is looking for photographs that reflect life in and the look of Monkton in the last half of the 20th century up to today. We are almost 20 years into the 21st century already. The Historical Society is seeking to capture the look, activities, social events, family events, community events, and the stories of Monkton. For example, the Historical Society would like to hear from people who attended the dedication of the Monkton Central School on September 24, 1961. Did anyone take photos of that event? Also, were photos taken at school meetings or events, town meetings, church events, grade school graduations, weddings inside the Friends Methodist Church or the East Monkton Church, the building of the Russell Library as well as Monkton Central School or the Fire Station?
Please look through your photo collection and consider whether a photograph captures some event, activity, or view that Monkton residents 100 years from now would be interested in seeing and finding more information about. Then bring any interesting Monkton photos, along with their stories, to the August meeting. MM&HS will be scanning photographs and recording stories about those photographs for our archives.
