43rd Community Messiah Sing: Benefit for Homeless

Past event
Dec 7, 2013, 1 to 3 PM

Friends of Music at Guilford (FOMAG) presents its 43rd annual Community Messiah Sing on Saturday, December 7, at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary of Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro. FOMAG provides a conductor, organist, and soloists, and 200 or more singers from the Tri-State region come to perform the Christmas choruses and a few favorites in Parts 2 and 3 of Handel's masterwork. Singers may bring their own score or borrow/buy one at the door, while non-singers are welcome to listen to the glorious sound of such a grand choir! Clark Anderson conducts the Sing for a third season, while William McKim steps in for a 28th year as organist after a brief, two-year "retirement." Soloists include Elizabeth Wohl, soprano; Justina Golden, alto; Justin Kenney, tenor; and Tony Grobe, bass. Since its rededication in 2007 as a benefit for the homeless, the Sing has raised nearly $10,500 in door donations for Morningside Shelter and the Brattleboro Area Drop In Center. The event's expenses are covered by a handful of area sponsors who donate services or funds. This year's major sponsors include Newton Business, Brown Computer Solutions, Brattleboro Savings & Loan, and the Brattleboro Reformer; additional support comes from Centre Congregational Church and Guilford's Richmond Auto Repair, as well as 48th season sponsor Entergy Vermont Yankee. The Drop In Center runs a collection station outside the church during the Sing; attendees and the general public can drop off non-perishable foods and new toys, as well as winter outerwear, longjohns, sleeping bags, and blankets for their clients and the Overflow Winter Shelter.
