This year, the organizers of the Addison Country Hand Mowing Contest are pleased to announce two unusual things:
1.) The return of international guest Alfonso Diaz, aka The Scythe Man. Hailing from northern Spain, he won the open competition last year with an impressive display of skill, and this year, he will be offering a workshop on peening after the competition. Joining him will be our own Mark Shattuck and Lucien Paquette, who may also be there before the competition if you want to touch up your blade. Please bring your blades to peen, and any extra peening kits you may be willing to let others borrow for the event. You can read a little more about Alfonso here: https://thescytheman.com/about/
2.) Prizes: In addition to plaques, some of the categories will have awards this year courtesy of Carol at Maine Scythe Supply. The top prize is a complete mowing kit, including blade and custom-sized snath! Three other categories will receive a whetstone. We will not be able to award a prize to every category this year, but hope to be able to so that in years to come.
As always, your admission to the fair is reimbursed at the judge's booth. We look forward to seeing you at the Addison County Far & Field Days this Thursday, August 10th, at 10:00
