During the last weekend of September, The Nature Museum will present its 9th annual Fairy House Festival. Knotholes become front doors, sea shells transform into bathtubs, and twigs are woven into ladders. The Fairy House Festival is an imaginative opportunity for people of all ages to interact directly with the environment, expressing their creativity while fostering a deeper relationship with nature. The acorn cap dinnerware and shelf fungi table will remind visitors to walk spritely on the earth. This enchanting family experience is held in the forests of Grafton on Saturday, September 23, and Sunday, September 24, from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Visitors will follow a nature path sprinkled with charming fairy houses, then return to The Nature Museum to create their own fairy dwellings in the gardens. Hands-on crafts, face painting and bubbles round out this interactive and magical experience for all. Light refreshments will be available for purchase and picnicking is encouraged.
The success of our Fairy House Festival is dependent upon the loyal and supportive efforts of our volunteers. Last year over 45 individuals, families, and organizations joined together to construct the fairy village. All registered fairy architects who submit a structure for the tour will receive two free tickets to this event. If you or your organization would like to build a fairy house for this year’s festival, please contact Executive Director Carrie King at carrie@nature-museum.org or call the Museum at (802) 843-2111 by September 12.
The Fairy House Festival is our key annual fundraiser with all earnings being reinvested directly back into operating The Nature Museum, a regional resource for nature, science, and environmental education in the Vermont and New Hampshire communities of the Connecticut River Valley. As a non-profit organization, we provide information and create experiences that engage and enlighten our audiences and inspire stewardship of the natural world. We meet this mission through our environmental education programs presented in regional public schools and libraries, the exhilarating natural science programs offered to children, adults and families, plus the Museum’s natural history exhibits available throughout the year. Visitors to The Nature Museum find value in our updated educational offerings, hands-on resources, and natural history displays. Research has shown that time in nature offers both physical and mental health benefits. Everyone who attends The Fairy House Festival will benefit themselves and The Nature Museum.
Advance tickets can be purchased at The Nature Museum by visiting www.nature-museum.org, or by calling (802) 843-2111. Tickets are also available at the gate. Children age 2 and under attend for free. This is a puckish annual tradition that inspires people of all ages to take a closer look at nature and supports The Nature Museum’s mission.
The Nature Museum is based at 186 Townshend Road in Grafton, Vermont. Join us for The Fairy House Festival, where curiosity, imagination, and learning unite in a shared celebration of nature.
