Orpheus, Pan, Tellus and Acoustic Ecology: fusing nature and art within one concert or soundscape.

This concert will be a remaking of an award-winning creativity in music project that Christopher presented in March, 2017, as part of his Doctoral program at the University of South Carolina. The project was inspired by the teachings of Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer, who developed the idea of acoustic ecology. Acoustic ecology seeks to study the relationship, mediated through sound, between human beings and their environment. In this concert Christopher will endeavor to leave audience members with a new, enhanced appreciation of both music and nature. The concert will also include works by J.S. Bach and movements from the South American inspired suite, Serie Americana.

A riveting and passionate artist, Christopher Schoelen is a classical guitarist who is currently working on his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina. He recently completed a Masters of Music degree at the New England Conservatory where he studied under the tutelage of the world-renowned
guitarist, Eliot Fisk. He has performed throughout the U.S. as well as in a number of countries in Europe. Christopher made his recent performance debut at Carnegie Hall in New York this past December after winning First Prize in the Golden Era of Romantic Music International competition. Christopher's musical journey began in E. Central Vermont, and he enjoys returning with each season to bring new creative work and a deepening appreciation of Classical Guitar to audiences of all kinds. He'll be performing with "Tellus" (meaning "Earth"), his guitar built in 2016 by luthier Stephen Connor of Rhode Island.
