The Brandon Free Public Library will present the show "Lost Faces of Brandon: New Portraits from 19th Century Negatives" by photographer Antonio Rankin on display at the library from Friday July 28 through Friday August 11.
In 2014, a box of two-hundred forgotten plate glass negative from the 1860s and 1880s was discovered in the building that housed the old Brandon photography studio. Using the painstaking 19th century albumen process, Rankin has produced new prints of thirteen portraits, all lost for between 130-150 years. Come see the faces and fashions of our past.
On Tuesday, August 8 at 6:30 P.M., the library will host talks by Rankin, on the photographs, as well as the techniques and artistic decisions necessitated by the albumen process, and Brandon historian Bill Powers, on the history of early photography in Brandon.
The show is also sponsored by the Brandon Museum at the Stephen Douglas Birthplace.
