You are invited to participate in a workshop Jim Olsen of Imagination, Ink www.imaginationink.com is conducting on Monday, August 7th introducing the exciting concept of Design Thinking.
Design Thinking is a discipline that uses the designer’s (anyone putting together a process - not necessarily an architect or graphic designer) sensibility and methods to match people’s needs with what is technologically feasible, and what viable business or social strategy can convert into customer value and market opportunity.
Design Thinking is all about starting with people and building deep empathy; generating lots of possible ideas; building and testing prototypes; and putting new solutions out into the world to improve lives and businesses.
The d.school at Stanford is the epicenter of Design Thinking. https://dschool.stanford.edu/ Here in Vermont it is taught at UVM, Norwich University, Champlain College, and St. Michael's College. Apple, Virgin, Toyota and Kaiser Permanente innovate continuously because of their Design Thinking culture. This thinking links inspiration and passion to execution and delivery affecting every facet of a product or service. Among others here in Vermont, it is practiced at UVM Medical Center, Vermont Energy Investment Corporation, and Burton Boards. The process was recently utilized by Partners for Change, a coalition between the Burlington and Winooski School Districts, to enhance learning opportunities for all students.
The workshop is the culmination of a course entitled "Facilitator’s Guide to Human Centered Design (Design Thinking)" in which Jim is enrolled. It is offered by +Accumen acumen.org and Ideo.org The design challenge participants will be asked to solve is one that affects us all – “How might we improve health in everyday life?”
The program will be from 9:00am to 5:00pm with a break for lunch. It will be held at the Essex Town Hall at 81 Main St. in Essex Junction.
There is no charge, and we will be serving a box lunch from Subway.
