US 5 in Waterford to close Monday August 7 for culvert repair following flooding
July 26, 2017 / Waterford, Vt. - The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) will close US Route 5 in Waterford slightly north of Smith Road, on Monday, August 7 and Tuesday, August 8 to replace a large culvert.
The culvert replacement is part of repairs to the slope failure that occurred during the isolated statewide flooding on July 1, 2017. Slope repair work will be completed by VTrans crews this week, in preparation for the culvert replacement beginning Monday August 7. Due to the narrowness of US Route 5 through this area, there is no safe and efficient way to replace the culvert without closing the road.
Variable message boards will be installed this week to inform motorists of the upcoming closure.
During the two-day closure, travelers are encouraged to use I-91 exit 18 in Barnet and exit 20 in St. Johnsbury. Travelers can view statewide road information using New England Compass at newengland511.org.
