It looks like excellent weather for a tour of the Champlain Black Marble Company limestone quarry on Isle La Motte. The quarry operators have partnered with the Isle La Motte Historical Society to offer this 1. 5 - 2 hour tour. Randy Patnode, a 3rd generation quarryman and manager of the Goodsell Quarry, will be the tour guide. The Goodsell Quarry has been in operation since 1875. Randy will explain present day quarrying activities and machines, and compare them with historical quarrying operations that occurred on the island. Tour participants will be able to view the active quarry pit and examine multi-ton excavated fossiliferous limestone blocks. Dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. The tour is limited to 20 people, 10 years old and older. Registration starts at 1 pm at the Isle La Motte Historical Society campus at the corner of Quarry Road and Main St. The tour begins at 1:30 pm.
