Join us on August 14 for an update on City Hall Park

In June 2016, the City of Burlington launched the Great Streets Initiative to advance several key projects to invest in a downtown that is vibrant, walkable and sustainable. This project builds on and implements many years of planning and project development for downtown streets and public places, including the 2012 Imagine City Hall Park process.

In November 2016, our team presented a concept plan for the redesign of City Hall Park. Through the end of December, we visited the City’s boards, commissions and NPAs to share the concept plan and collect additional feedback; we also received many comments online. The plan for City Hall Park prioritized a healthy, functioning urban park; accessibility for all users, in all seasons; and the enhancement of an historic park to meet the modern needs of our community. Throughout the winter and spring, we’ve been busy conducting additional studies to inform our plans, and refining the concepts based on public input and preliminary cost estimates. During the presentation we’ll provide an updated concept plan and highlight ways in which the plan has responded to feedback and this additional information.

Since the launch of the Great Streets project, City Hall Park and Main Street were anticipated to be near-term construction projects. Over the winter, critical milestones were reached regarding the Eagle’s Landing project, which is now under construction. This presented an opportunity to advance the reconstruction of St. Paul Street ahead of the other projects in coordination with Eagle’s Landing which is anticipated to wrap in late summer of 2018. During the presentation, we’ll share an update on what this means for the overall Great Streets project schedule.

Plans, copies of presentations, and links to video recordings from previous City Hall Park presentations can be found on the project website below, along with the feedback received on the late 2016 plans.

We hope you’ll join us for this presentation of the updated plans on August 14 at 7:00pm in Contois Auditorium, City Hall.

Additional presentations of these plans will take place at the September 5 Parks Commission meeting and a City Council Parks, Arts & Culture Committee meeting in August. Future presentations regarding plans for Main Street will be announced later this summer. See www.greatstreetsbtv.com for details.
