The Winooski Valley Park District's Pedal and Paddle event sounds like great fun for a great cause--restoration and protection work in the Winooski River watershed. This 7 mile loop includes a 4-mile bike ride from the Ethan Allen Homestead through the Intervale to Winooski. In Winooski, you will park your bike and launch in your canoe or kayak for a 3-mile paddle back to the Homestead. You can bring along a picnic lunch and enjoy games and music at the Homestead after you finish the course. Since glass bottles are not allowed on the property, Shelburne Vineyard will be on hand beginning at 12:30 selling their cold new "Capsize" white wine in a can for you to enjoy with lunch and while you're on the ground at the Homestead. No alcohol is permitted in boats or on bikes.
If you register by July 21st, fees are as follows: $20 (ages 17 & up); $12 (ages 10 to 16); free under 10. After July 21st, fees increase to $30 (17 & up) and $22 (10-16). For more details and to register visit www.winooskirec.com and click Register Now. For questions call or e-mail Winooski Parks & Rec Manager at (802) 777-1621, afinley@winooskivt.org.
