T.W. Wood Artrageous Summer Camp Still Has Openings

The T.W. Wood Gallery's Artrageous Camps, still has room in our fun and creative summer art camp programs for kids 7-14. Artrageous Camp is held at the Gallery at 46 Barre Street in Montpelier. Choose from Performing Secrets, Design and Make Pop-up Cards and Your Own Pop-up Book, and Trash to Treasures, Art from Recycled Materials (more details on camps are below)

• 7/31/17 - 8/4/17 - Performing Secrets! Learn the basics of acting and the fun of being a clown, secrets of magic tricks and play theater games! Time for outside fun too! Lead by artist and educator Ellis Jacobson.
Ellis is known for his widely exhibited sculpted masks and his original comedy theater and has presented arts enrichment workshops throughout Vermont. He is the After School Arts Director at the T.W. Wood Gallery and has been an instructor and director for a variety of after school and summer camp programs.

• 8/7/17-8/11/17 - Design Pop-up Cards and Make Your Own Pop-up Book! Led by Ellen Bresler. Take a plain, flat piece of paper and bring it to life with simple cuts and folds. Starting with basics you can make it spin, pop, flip, swing and more. You will learn lots of techniques to create your own decorations, toys, theater sets and all occasion fun cards). Time for outside fun too! Paper engineering can bring new dimensions to school projects as well. You'll put some of your favorite techniques together to create your own pop-up book! The whole group will also collaborate to create a book to give to the Wood Art Gallery to become part of its permanent art collection!
Ellen has been a practitioner, teacher and student of paper engineering for more than 3 decades and never tires of the magic in learning a new way to make paper dance. She has taught workshops to students from age 3 to 90! Classes have been in libraries, town halls, church basements, a correctional facility, art galleries, private homes and in schools from pre-K to college.

8/14/17- 8/18/17 - Trash to Treasures Trash to Treasures: Up-Cycled Art. Led by Michelle Saffran. Scrounge around your closets, clean out those broken toys and pilfer through your recycling bin. Campers will take things apart and reassemble them into 2 and 3 dimensional art works. Using collage, assemblage and sculpture you will spend the week creating your own works of art as well as one large group sculpture, all made from materials rescued from being thrown away or recycled. Camp will include field trips to see local sculpture and art exhibits.
Michelle Saffran is a working artist and arts educator. She earned her MFA from Lesley College of Art and Design and a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. In her art practice she pushes the tradition of photography by turning it into sculpture, handmade books and collages.
Camp Fees
• Cost: One Week $300 members, $340 non members
• Two Weeks: $550 Members, $595 non members
• Three weeks- $825 Gallery member/$875 non-members
• Gallery membership: Individual $40, Family $75
