Practicing Talking with Children About Racism

Past event
Aug 8, 2017, 6 to 8 PM

Hello again,

Talking about race and racism can be difficult -- especially with children. But that does not mean we shouldn't have these conversations. As many of you know, I work at the Peace & Justice Center, and one of our most requested and loved programs is "How to Talk with Kids about Racism" discussion group. I am really happy to announce...drum roll please...we are bringing it to the Richmond Library in August!

This program is on Tuesdays, August 8, 15, and 22 from 6-8. It is designed to help adults (and young adults) discuss racism and white privilege with children in a meaningful and age-appropriate way. It includes resources, discussion, and role playing. This discussion group is guided by Isaiah Hines and Jade Walker. Participants are expected to attend all three discussion group sessions.

Space is limited. For more information and/or to sign-up call 863-2345 x6 or register online at (https://goo.gl/forms/V66lY2tT17cVPKfd2).

Thanks so much!

Kyle

Also on a related note...

The Peace & Justice Center received a private $5,000 matching donation. In order to get it, we need to raise $5,000 from new donors before July 31.

We've all been in high gear since last November to resist and rebuild. The PJC has been called upon to support many emergent and strategist things. We are humbled and excited to be here as a hub for activist activity. I am so grateful to work for and with so many amazing community member. Together we can continue our role but we need more support.

I have a personal goal to raise $500 from my community. Help me do this by donating in anyway and dropping my name or specifically through the Crowdrise event (https://www.crowdrise.com/new-member-drive-for-pjc-2017/fundraiser/kylesillimansmith). Any amount helps. Read more about what we've been up to on our website www.pjcvt.org. Thank you!
