Death Cafe Founder Has Died - No Time Like the Present!

Jon Underwood, founder of the international organization Death Cafe, has died at the young age of 44. But he has left us the Death Cafe, which is a great gift. Death Cafe is a public, free, venue for addressing mortality, a topic that seems mostly ignored, talked about in hushed tones. He thought death ought to be discussed, and many people agreed, including a group in Johnson, Vermont (and groups in many countries all over the world). Going to death cafe is not, as some might think, morbid and gut wrenching - actually, there seems to be a paradoxical effect. The more we talk openly about death, the more we deeply deeply appreciate the lives that we do have. We invite you to come practice listening and talking, and sharing in this agenda-free, safe and respectful discussion.

Death Cafe is a safe and respectful space to explore topics surrounding death. Past topics have included the grieving process, the dying process, experiences helping our friends and loved ones through illness and dying, our beliefs about death, and experiences talking with dying people, near death experiences, our feelings about our own mortality, spirits and dream visitations, legacy issues, death with dignity, hospitalization, home deaths, what a "good death" is, burial practices. You name it, we've talked about it. Death Cafe is not promoting anything, we are not giving advice, we are not a psychological support group, and there is no pre-arranged topic. You don't need to prepare anything at all, unless you just feel like baking.

YOU'RE INVITED! Johnson Death Cafe, July 18, 5:30 to 7pm at the Johnson Municipal Building, Route 15 (Main Street), Johnson Vermont. Open to public, free. Come join us for tea and talking. Some of us do bring cookies and cakes.
