Hi Neighbors!
I am excited to invite you to participate in a three part workshop that I am co-facilitating at the end of this month and into August on Wednesday evenings in Burlington. I have had the great pleasure of being a part of this workshop over 10 times and each time I explore the work in interesting and sometimes unexpected ways thanks to the participation of different people who bring a variety of lived experiences and perspectives. Join me and we can learn together!
This program strives to give participants the opportunity to build skills and knowledge to engage in racial justice work within themselves, their communities, and institutions that they are a part of. The first session will focus on the struggle for dominant communities to learn in a meaningful and personal way about racism without being overwhelmed by feelings of shame, guilt, and/or victimization. The second session dives into myths and stereotypes in order to identify subconscious bias and how these bias affect our daily lives. The final session is mostly role-playing and exploring other tools for action. Participants will also create a plan to reaffirm their personal commitment to creating and supporting a racially just society.
