MALCOLM BELL: HARVARD LAWYER, AUTHOR, NON-VIOLENT ACTIVIST
Malcolm Bell will speak at the Castleton Free Library on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 1pm. He has released an updated book, THE ATTICA TURKEY SHOOT about the Attica Prison Riots of 1971. He became interested in criminal law after 15 years as a corporate lawyer in NYC, when he answered a blind advertisement for prosecutors in The New York Law Journal and wound up being hired as a NY State Prosecutor for the Attica team. Bell fought the state cover-up following the riots & represented inmates.
Bell eventually moved to Weston, VT with his present wife, Nancy. He became an activist in the Sanctuary Movement of the 1980s. Bell himself broke the law to stand in solidarity with — and offer safe-haven to — illegal refugees fleeing the brutality of state-led and US-assisted terror in Guatemala and El Salvador. He recently received an award from Dismas House in Rutland for his work with released prisoners. Bell divides his efforts between writing and non-violent activism against war, torture, and imperialism.
A representative from Phoenix Books will be there with copies of Bell’s book.
Refreshments will be served.
