At this month's Open House at the Montpelier Shambhala Center we will discuss How to Prevent Burnout in Social Action.
July 12th, 6-7:30pm.
Meditation instruction will be given, we’ll practice and then a short talk will be offered, followed by a discussion, tea and snacks.
This month’s talk will be given by Jason Newman entitled: How to Prevent Burnout in Social Action. Many people engage in, want to engage in, or want to engage more in social activism. In this talk, Jason Newman will review an article by the President Emeritus of Shambhala, Richard Reoch, entitled “The Broken Hearted Activist.” Richard explains his own path of activism, the obstacles he encounters, and the antidotes he recommends. Perhaps you will find this topic relevant to your own understanding and how you respond to what is happening in the political, social, and economic spheres in the United States and Vermont.
Jason taught this text in March 2017 in Kiev, and it engendered a lively discussion. Please feel free to down load the article from Richard’s web site and ask whatever question or make whatever statement you think will bring more richness to this topic.
