Forest Habitat Improvement Walk
Sunday, July 16, 9am
1428 Stage Road, Guilford, home of Marli Rabinowitz
Take a stroll through a 40 acre forest and see how different events have shaped the forest. Learn
practices that can be done to increase tree growth and provide a more diverse habitat. Apple trees have been released, invasives have been reduced, a 2 acre patch was cut and left to regrow, and a timber stand improvement harvest was done in winter 2006/7. The resulting architecture of the forest is reflected in increased habitat for birds, animals, and plants.
This is an easy walk on cleared paths. There is one easy hill to go down and back up, but there is a
shortcut home for those who do not wish to do that part.
Directions from Exit 1 Brattleboro: Rte 5 south to Guilford General Store; turn right onto Guilford Center Road. 4.6miles, (through Guilford Center, then about another ¼ mile). Then right onto Stage Road. After 1 ¼ mile, there are a group of mailboxes on a board on right. Take next driveway on right, (there will be a sign). The house is white with a red building. If you pass the driveway you will be headed downhill.
