Santa Claus is coming to Poultney! The holiday season kicks off in Poultney every year with the arrival of Santa Claus in front of the Poultney Public Library riding atop a fire engine. This beloved annual tradition, hosted in the past by the Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce, is now being sponsored and arranged by the Poultney Public Library. He arrives this year on Saturday, December 7th, and the library is planning some fun activities to prepare for his visit.

In addition to the usual evening festivities, the library will be arranging a Story Walk that families can participate in throughout the day. Pages of a popular children’s Christmas book will be displayed in businesses around Poultney, allowing families to stroll through downtown Poultney reading a story as they go. Children can pick up a Story Walk sheet at the library in the week leading up to Santa’s visit and fill it out on their walk to win a prize from the library.

From 6:00pm – 6:30pm the Poultney Public Library will hold their annual Santa Story Time. This ever popular program features Librarian Rebecca Cook and Assistant Librarian Dawn Santos sharing songs and stories about Santa. This free program is fun for families and children of all ages. After Santa Story Time, Santa will arrive in front of the library on a fire truck and lead the children down the street to the Town Office green. At that end of the street volunteers will be giving out cookies and cocoa, kids will get the chance to chat with the big man in red, and the town tree will be lit. A special Thank You to AmeriCorps volunteer Ruth Larkin for all her help getting ready for Santa’s visit!
