Peacham Contra Dance July 3

Past event
Jul 3, 2017, 7 to 10 PM

.The Peacham Town July 3rd Family Friendly Contra Dance will take place Monday July 3rd in the Peacham Town Gym from 7:00pm-10:00pm. Come enjoy the live music, view the quilts, and watch or participate in the dancing. Music will be provided by The NIPS with Chip Hedler calling.

Contra dancing is a social dance that one can attend without a partner. The caller will teach the sequence of figures in the dance before the music starts.

The music played for contra dances includes, but is not limited to Irish, Scottish, old-time and French-Canadian folk tunes. The fiddle is considered the core instrument, though other stringed instruments such as the guitar, banjo, bass and mandolin are played as well. Music in a dance can consist of a single tune or a medley of tunes.

A successful contra dance needs three components: dancers, a caller, and a band. So put on your "dancing shoes" and come join us. Bring a snack to share if you like for during the break. The event is free as part of the Peacham 4th of July celebration, but donations are welcome to support the band.
