Boat Wash Station Open House

If boats are already in water, why do we have to wash them?

Because we now understand how invasive species of plants and animals are carried from one water body to another. Microorganisms, as well as good old milfoil which we can see, cling to boats and trailers when they move from one lake to another. Once an invasive plant or animal enters a lake, it is there for good.

A state-of-the-art boat wash station, which may soon be required by law for all boat launch areas, has been established at the State Fishing Access at Lake Iroquois. The Lake Iroquois Association is holding an open house on Sunday, June 25th from 1-3 PM at the boating access to demonstrate how the high pressure, hot water wash station kills off invasive micro plants and animals to keep them from spreading to other Vermont water bodies.

Grant money has supported the purchase of the high pressure washer, and the trailer which houses it. Stop by on Sunday afternoon to watch trained greeters demonstrate the new equipment. Bring your boat or other water craft for a free wash while you are there.

Oh. by the way: No car, or dog washes allowed;) See you at the Boat Launch on Sunday afternoon.
