Preview of June 26 City Council Meeting

Past event
Jun 26, 2017, 7 to 9 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will convene its last of three meetings for the month of June. The Council will begin its evening with an Executive Session on the process for selecting a buyer/partner for Burlington Telecom. The Burlington Telecom Advisory Board, of which I am a member, has been meeting for the past three Wednesday evenings and will be meeting again this coming Wednesday to review the Letters of Interest in acquiring BT. We met the first Wednesday in June to review the LOIs and evaluate them in terms of the criteria the BTAB worked for over a year to craft and the Council unanimously approved. We then invited several of the 8 respondents to the LOI process to come meet with us in person to discuss their proposals.

The BTAB’s role in this process is to recommend to the Council finalists that the Board believes the Council should consider. The number of finalists is not a pre-determined number but it is reasonable to say it will be more than 1 and probably less than 4. The finalists will come to a Council meeting that will be open to the public so the full Council and community can meet the leaders of these entities and hear from them on their vision for BT and their commitment to our community and the criteria we have established. That list of finalists will come to the Council in July.

After this work session, we will begin our Council meeting in Contois Auditorium in City Hall. This coming Monday is when the Council annually appoints members to serve on our various Commissions and Boards. We have several outdoor and indoor entertainment permits, one of each for Dedalus Wine Group on Pine Street, an indoor permit for Drink on St. Paul Street and an indoor permit for Half Lounge on Church Street. We have one resolution on our agenda Monday night. It is to authorize the execution of a contract amendment with Suisman Urban Design and amend the Capital Budget for the Great Streets Project. This amendment would fund 100% of the construction documents for 2 blocks of St Paul Street from Main to Maple Streets, coming from Downtown TIF funds that we the voters approved in March 2015.

We will end our evening with an Executive Session to get an update on the Moran Redevelopment.

As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website: https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please be in touch over the weekend and on Monday.

My best,
Karen
