Press Release:
St. Albans City, VT – A yearlong effort to craft a redevelopment strategy for the Catherine, Market and Stebbins Block of St. Albans City is finished. The final plan will be presented to the public at St. Albans City Hall at 6PM on Tuesday, June 27th.

The targeted area wide planning study will be used by the City as a guide and marketing tool for redevelopment of a key block in downtown St. Albans. Within its vision and strategy for revitalization, the plan focuses on redevelopment strategies for several underutilized properties impacted by brownfields. The plan recommends action steps for a public/private partnership approach to encourage new private investment, hazardous waste mitigation, pu...blic infrastructure improvements, green space and pedestrian amenity enhancements, and overall transformation of this important City block into one that will compliment downtown of St. Albans.

City Director of Planning and Development, Chip Sawyer, is pleased by the results of the project and its ability to facilitate redevelopment in and around this area of the downtown. “The City is always on the look-out for opportunities to work with the private sector on redevelopment projects that can transform an entire area,” says Sawyer, “and this study pulls together a lot of what we need to plan for long-term improvements in this portion of the Downtown.”

The project is funded by the Northwest Regional Planning Commission’s Brownfields program.
