Open Mic at Stone Valley Arts at Fox Hill

Past event
Jun 23, 2017, 7 to 9 PM

Stone Valley Arts Literary Open Mic will be held Friday, June 23, at 7:00 p.m. at Stone Valley Arts at Fox Hill, (stone church across from Poultney High School). Poets, Storytellers, Spoken Word Artists in all genres are invited to perform your own original poems, slam pieces, classics, or other favorites. The stories have been great, including several that were recently published in new books by local writers who frequent the SVA open mic. It's like having NPR's "The Moth" story hour right here in Poultney. Come to perform, or just to be entertained, and bring a friend! Check out this historic building built in 1822! Plus, you are invited to participate in an Ekphrastic poetry event! Choose any work of art from CONNECTION, an exciting exhibition of visual art in various mediums produced by more than 20 regional artists currently on exhibit in the SVA gallery. Write a poem responding to the work of art. Your response might include vivid description, commentary, imaginative leaps such as creating narrative or dialogue, giving voice to the subject, or even to the artist. Make the connection and explore the possibilities! Take notes, take a picture, go back to your writing space and take your time to write an ekphrastic poem. Then participate in a public reading in the SVA Gallery on Sunday, July 16 at 2:00 pm. So, come Friday June 23 to read and also to get some inspiration for new writing!
