4th of July Fiddlers' Contest

Calling all fiddlers, the 2nd Annual McAlister-King Fiddlers' Contest is July 4th at Oxbow Riverfront Park. Registration starts at 2:00, fiddling starts at 3:30.
CONTEST GENERAL RULES
The following rules apply to all division except Little Tykes and Trick & Fancy
1. Each contestant will play in the following order:
• Waltz (3/4 time)
• Tune of choice (anything except waltz or hoedown
• Hoedown (reel or jig, square dance music
2. No medleys allowed
3. Each contestant’s performance should be about 6 minutes
4. One back-up musician may accompany the fiddler (such as guitar or keyboard) but at no time can they play the lead
5. Fiddles must be in standard (GDAE) tuning (see Trick & Fancy for exception)
6. Contestants must play from memory, no music stands except in Little Tykes
7. Contestants will be judged on timing, tone, technique and musical expression
8. No tunes with sound effects allowed (see Trick & Fancy for exception)
9. No singing or dancing (see Trick & Fancy for exception)
TRICK & FANCY RULES
2. Contestants in this division may also enter one other division where their age is applicable
3. Contestants will play one tune
4. Tunes may be one with sound effects such as Orange Blossom Special, Listen to the Mocking Bird or Chicken Reel
5. Non-standard cross tunings are allowed
6. Singing and dancing by the contestant is allow
7. Judging will be similar to the General Rule #7 but the overall entertainment factor is important
PROFESSIONAL DIVISION
1. This division is for contestants who make at least ½ of their income from playing and/or teaching music (general rules apply
LITTLE TYKES DIVISION
1. One tune or medley no longer than 5 minutes is allow. Music stands may be used
JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL
