The Salisbury Congregational Church will present a performance by the East-Middlebury based ensemble, OhAnleigh. Tom Hanley, his daughter Becca, Doug Riley, and Cindy Hill provide a lively range of Irish immigrant music-- from toe-tapping, sing-along pub tunes to ballads, fiddle pieces, and original songs based on Irish myths and legends -- interspersed with bits of story and poetry. Their performances and CDs (“Of Irish Crossings Told,” 2006; “Farewell Roscommon,” 2008) have won praise for their variety and contrast of both musical genre and amazing array of Instruments, from guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, fiddle, and bass to dulcimer, autoharp, bodhrans, harmonica, spoons, and penny whistles.
This will be the second event in Salisbury’s thirty-eighth Summer Performance Series that will run on Friday evenings until August 11 at the historic, but handicapped accessible, 1838 church in Salisbury Village. There is no admission charge; a free-will donation in support of the series will be appreciated. Any receipts in excess of the expenses for the series will be applied to the continued restoration of Salisbury’s landmark meetinghouse.
