Four years ago, my son, then 11, attended a USA Luge Slider Search in Burlington. From there, he was invited to a screening camp where he stayed at at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid and slid their world cup track. It was an amazing experience, and would have been completely worthwhile if it ended there. The following spring he was named to the USA Luge Junior National Team, and since then, he's won a national championship, and is currently the 4th seeded U21 luge athlete in the US. It all started with a fun morning of trying out luge.
The slider search is coming back to Vermont this weekend! The White Castle USA Luge Slider Search will make a stop June 17 and 18 at the Champlain Valley Expo on Route 15 in Essex Junction. Clinic times are 9 AM – 12 PM and 2 – 5 PM. Interested participants need only sign up for one session.
