Allison Turner, an herbalist with expertise in ethnobotany, will lead a wildflower and medicinal plant walk at Hogback on Saturday June 17, 10 am-noon.
This won't be a strenuous hike, but be prepared to wander among the ferns and forbs off the main trails to seek interesting specimens. Allison is the Science Laboratory Coordinator at Marlboro College, where she teaches Biology and Chemistry. She's also a "pharmacognosist." No, that's not a typo. It means she has expert knowledge of the active chemical components of medicinal plants. Whether you're interested in how early settlers used native plants for medicine, or just want to learn the names of the late spring flowers, you will enjoy this guided walk.
Meet and park on the south side of Route 9, just west of the gift shop. Please don't block the staff parking at the Distillery (white A-frame). Questions? Contact the Hogback Mountain Conservation Association at hmca@hogbackvt.org.
