Join Wild Food Guide and local herbalist Melanie Putz Brotz, RD on a guided plant walk through Burlington’s Intervale region, and learn to identify local wild edibles and herbal medicinal plants. We will focus on abundant plants, often considered weeds or "non-native" plants, that have high culinary and nutritional value, and we'll taste sample some of the plants as we go. We'll likely find St. Johnswort, Japanese knotweed, catnip, greater celandine, yarrow, garlic mustard, wild violets, dandelion, burdock, motherwort, plantain, stinging nettles, jewel weed, yellow dock, and many more surprises. Plant and habitat protection will be a focus, along with safe identification, proper timing for harvest, and preparation techniques for food and herbal medicine.
