How many species occur in Vermont? Amazingly, biologists are not sure. The list continues to grow as we discover new native and introduced species across the state. Join us at the Green Mountain Club Visitors Center in learning how the new Vermont Atlas of Life project is creating a biodiversity warehouse where existing and new information about Vermont’s plants and animals can be shared, created, and used – by citizen naturalists, professional biologists and others.

We’ll learn about the Atlas, how anyone can contribute to it, and how the data can be accessed and used from Kent McFarland, a biologist at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies. Will include a demonstration of how to gather and enter basic observations from the field in eBird, eButterfly and iNaturalist. See how simple and fun sharing what you see around your home or on the trails can be. Downloading these apps on your phone or tablet and bringing along your device to practice on is encouraged, but not required.
