The Hardwick Area Community Justice Center will be hosting a two-part training on June 8th and June 22nd. This is a skill building workshop on techniques to help people through a process of change. This training will focus on the Motivational Interviewing techniques of asking Open Ended Questions and giving Affirmations, Reflections, and Summaries (OARS). Facilitated by staff from local Community Justice Centers, this interactive workshop is for all CJC volunteers and staff as well as community memnbers who would like to sharpen their communication skills, learn how to encourage others to make their own pro-social decisions without lecturing, and create true working partnerships.
The OARS technique provides simple and effective communication strategies for difficult conversations around conflict and behavior change. Training activities will focus on hands-on application and role play along with ample time for questions and review.
