Vermont Shakespeare Festival presents a Salon Series staged reading of RED VELVET by Lolita Chakrabarti.

Sunday, June 4th, 3 p.m. in the Farrell Room in St. Edmunds Hall at St. Michael’s College. Refreshments provided. Suggested donation $10. The play is based on the true story of Ira Aldridge, who, in 1833, was the first black actor to play the role of Othello on the London stage. In this VSF Salon presentation, Jolie Garrett will appear as Aldridge. Garrett has worked for such critically acclaimed theatre companies as The Negro Ensemble Company, Shakespeare Theatre of Washington, D. C., Arena Stage, and the American Shakespeare Center, as well as Shakespeare’s New Globe in London. Mr. Garrett was the 2008 recipient of the Katharine Cornell Award for excellence in the American Theatre, and appeared as Martin Luther King, Jr. in The Mountaintop at Vermont Stage. There will be a discussion after the reading. Special guest: Jane Williamson- Executive Director of the Rokeby Museum.

To RSVP go to www.vermontshakespeare.org or call (877) 874-1911.

*Side note: I'm also playing a part in this reading. :)
