The Aphasia Choir Concert

Past event
Jun 3, 2017, 2 to 3:30 PM

Hi there!
For the past two years I have been fortunate enough to be involved in the Aphasia Choir. This choir is made up of stroke survivors, most who have suffered a left hemisphere stroke. Due to this stroke, they have acquired a communication disorder called Aphasia. There are different types of aphasia, but no one case of aphasia is the same. Each individual will vary in severity and communication abilities. However, since music is processed in the right side of the brain, all of these individuals are able to tap into this side of the brain and sing fluently. This choir works very hard each week to prepare a free concert for the public to spread awareness about aphasia. I invite you to come and experience this for yourselves! All are welcome to attend our concert at Saint Michaels College this weekend on Saturday June 3rd in the Elley-Long Music Center at 2:00 pm. During the concert you will have the opportunity to hear these brave individuals both sing and speak which exemplifies the unbelievable and undeniable ease these individuals feel when singing compared to speaking.
Below I have attached a link to the WCAX story that was created on the choir last week!
We hope to see you there!
