The Healthcare Movie

Peacham Library will host a program about single-payer healthcare on Wednesday, May 31 at 7pm.

Healthcare has been a major topic in the news, in Congress, and amongst friends as they try to finance their own care. Congress discusses one funding alternative, but are there others? How did the United States come to the system we have today, while Canada’s healthcare followed different paths to their current funding streams?

Peacham Library’s program will begin with a screening of “The Healthcare Movie,” a movie that discusses how, over 50 years ago, the US and Canada had similar healthcare, but each evolved in their own way. After the movie Dr. Betty Keller will lead a discussion of the movie, our current system and the single-payer alternative.

Dr. Betty Keller, of St. Johnsbury, trained at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and completed her residency and one year as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Utah Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, where she assisted in developing curriculum and logistics for student providers training in rural underserved areas. After returning to Vermont to practice medicine, she became committed to advocating for a unified system for healthcare. Dr. Keller is an active member of Physicians for a National Health Program, communicating with legislators, giving testimony at hearings, speaking at forums, assisting in grassroots organizing, and producing media to educate the public about healthcare reform.

This program is free and open to the public. Peacham Library is ADA accessible. Please contact the library (592-3216 or www.peachamlibrary.org) for further information.
