Communicating with the Person with Dementia

Past event
Jun 1, 2017

In this best friends™ approach to dementia care workshop, participants will learn useful skills to improve communication with individuals living with dementia. Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia illnesses slowly disable the communication centers of the brain. This causes people to forget words, mix their words up, and lose the ability to remember what was said just a moment ago. Despite these limitations, persons living with dementia still want to communicate. As friends and caregivers, we need to learn new communication skills to help them overcome isolation and loneliness and to make caregiving easier and more rewarding for us.

Facilitators Nancy Oakes and Pam Smith, Best Friends™ Master Trainers from the Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging, will lead this training.
When: Thursday, June 1, 6 8 PM
Where: Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital Conference Room 126, St.
Please register by calling Nancy or Pam at 748-5182 or email info@NekCouncil.org
