Act 46 Community Forum

Past event
May 31, 2017, 6:30 to 8 PM

Last week more than 30 Calais citizens met at the elementary school for an open forum to talk about how we will move forward in response to Act 46, the Vermont law concerning school governance. The Calais School Board is required by law to make a decision and present a proposal to the state Board of Education by January, 2018. Before we do this, we need to know what the people of Calais want.

Should we seek to merge with Berlin, East Montpelier, Middlesex, and Worcester to form one district and one board? Should we petition to remain as we are, while working to make more progress toward efficiency and equity throughout our Supervisory Union? Should we look to merge with Montpelier and totally restructure our schools? Is there a creative hybrid that would be the best alternative?

Please, add your voice to this important conversation! We will hold another forum this Wednesday, May 31 at 6:30 at Calais Elementary. Come to hear what our options are and what your neighbors think, and to share your own hopes for the future of our school and our town.
