Why are 62 million girls globally not being educated? If this question raises your ire, come to the Waterbury Library on Tuesday evening, June 6th for a discussion on "Girl Rising" with award-winning author Tanya Lee Stone. Inspired by the film "Girl Rising", the book unpacks obstacles to education such as child marriage and modern-day slavery, shares stories of brave girls who are now in school and offers starter suggestions for the activist in you. The presentation at 6:30 is followed by a Q & A. Bridgeside Books who is partnering with the Waterbury Public Library, will have books available for purchase. Teen and up.
"Girl Rising" is Tanya Lee Stone's 100th book. She writes nonfiction picture books, narrative nonfiction for older readers , and YA fiction and has earned numerous accolades. She often writes about little-known or unknown stories of women and people of color that would otherwise be missing from our histories. Stone teaches Writing for Children at Champlain College.
