Please consider stopping by Shelburne Vineyard on Sunday, May 21st from 4 to 6 pm for the Closing Reception and Artist Talk for "Freedom Speak: Recent Work by Kate Longmaid." My recent work has taken a new direction in reaction to the sea change in American politics. Following the Women's March, I awoke with a vision of graffiti scrawled over a portrait. This translated into a body of reworked portraits featuring slogans from recent political events, quotations, and my own words. The work merges image with voice, encompassing women's rights, human rights, and issues involving social justice. I am honored to have former state representative and school board member Joan Lenes in attendance. Joan will be representing Emerge Vermont, an organization dedicated to increasing the number of Democratic women in public office. 10% of sales at the exhibit will benefit Emerge Vermont.
