Peace & Justice Center Veteran's Day Speaker Nov. 11

Past event
Nov 11, 2013, 7 to 8:30 PM

In honor of Veteran's Day, Mike Heaney, a former Infantry Platoon Leader in the Vietnam War, will speak about his experience as a soldier, veteran, mentor to other veterans, and scholar who studies the costs of war as they relate to the human spirit. Lt. Heaney will offer a GI's perspective on the combat experience through sharing his stories of being ambushed and losing comrades, and returning to Vietnam years after the war ended, and the relationships he now has with Vietnamese veterans who were at one point his enemy. I highly recommend this event, Mike is a powerful speaker and storyteller that I have know for several years now and who continues to inspires me. There will also be time at this event for all veterans in attendance and their families to be honored for their service and for these individuals to share a few words about their experiences if they would like. It is FREE and is being hosted as part of the Peace & Justice Center’s Cost of War Speaker and Film Series. This series is co-sponsored by the Will Miller Chapter of Green Mountain Veterans for Peace, the Anne Slade Frey Charitable Trust, the Sisters of Mercy, the Vermont Community Foundation, and the Harris and Frances Block Foundation.
